With the support of grants, some very effective programs have been implemented on behalf of the Chinatown community. These include Clean Streets, the first sustained effort to keep the neighborhood clean, and world-class events like Taste of ChinatownSM, which attract visitors, and revenue, from around the world.
With funding for these programs running out by 2010, and with previous attempts to sustain similar programs unsuccessful, Chinatown has reached a fork in the road.
Our hard work over the past four years has proven that Chinatown is capable of helping itself. The BID is a time-tested method that will make current improvements permanent and ensure the future of this historic neighborhood.
When considering a BID for Chinatown, remember that change is inevitable, but it can be managed. Remember that all choices have costs, benefits and tradeoffs.
