9 Man 80 Years Chinatown Legacy Festival

Guide

August 2025

On behalf of the Chinatown District Management Association, Inc. (aka Chinatown BID), we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations and sincerely welcome everyone to the 80th North American Chinese International Volleyball Tournament and the 9 Man 80 Years Chinatown Legacy Festival .

This milestone of 80 years of legacy is not only a celebration of remarkable achievement in sports, but also a powerful testament to cultural and historical resilience. With decades of commitment in preserving and sustaining the unique tradition of 9-man volleyball—which is an important legacy product that grew and came out of Chinatown at a time when Chinese were facing many barriers and prejudice—it brings thousands of participants back home, injecting energy and life to support our community, and reconnects with one’s roots and your original launching base here.

The strength, unity, and resilience spirit of the Chinese American community is visible in everyday acts—whether it is the multi-generational families running small local businesses, people attending language school to preserve our own languages, local residents who actively advocate for community improvement, or passing down the proud traditions of holiday and 9-man volleyball. These everyday support, often subtle and unspoken, exemplifies the spirit of our community. We commend all the participants, organizers, volunteers, and all who have worked tirelessly to make this event enduring. As you celebrate this 80th anniversary milestone, know that your legacy is imprinted on every sweat, every cheer, and every handshake. Thank you for respecting and promoting this cultural and historic tradition, and we look forward to celebrating alongside you this Labor Day and for many more years to come.
