NYC@Home: New York Counts Virtual Census Create-A-Thon
June 20 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Calling all who want to step up for their community and help make a 10-year impact! Join us for NYC@Home, New York City’s first virtual Census Create-A-Thon, to make sure that everyone in your neighborhood counts. This online event will bring together the people of New York to brainstorm and design digital media, memes, videos, poems and more to inform the public about the 2020 Census.
We are seeking tech-savvy creatives that can join an online platform, have a laptop, camera, or other tools for creating digital content.
But anyone who wants to step up for their community are welcome! This includes community organizers, advocates, content creators, teens and young people.
During NYC@Home, we’ll learn about the 2020 Census and why it matters for New York. Many communities here have historically been undercounted, including people of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, people experiencing homelessness, low-income families, renters, single-parent households, people with limited English proficiency, and children under five. NYC@Home artwork and messages will focus on multi-generational or non-traditional households, which touch on many of these undercounted communities.
Besides helping choose the ideas your communities need to hear, you will also be able to connect with community leaders and event partners knowledgeable about the 2020 Census, including Association for a Better New York (ABNY), Brooklyn Public Library, Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York, New York Branch NAACP, New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), and Queens Public Library.
