New York City Advisory Commission on Property Tax Reform Manhattan Virtual Public Hearing on 10 Preliminary Recommendations
June 16 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
In 2018, Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson established an advisory commission to develop recommendations to make the City’s property tax system simpler, clearer, and fairer, while ensuring there is no reduction in revenue used to fund essential City services. In early 2020, the Commission released a Preliminary Report, which included 10 initial recommendations for reform. The Preliminary Report also included a brief history of New York City’s property tax system, the current methods that the Department of Finance uses to calculate property tax bills, and challenges with the existing tax system. The Commission initially planned in–person hearings on this report for March 2020 in Staten Island, but these were postponed due to COVID–19.
We are now seeking input from the public on the initial 10 recommendations at a Manhattan borough–based Zoom hearing on June 16at 6:00pm. We urge all New Yorkers to read the report, attend a public hearing and make your voice heard.Your feedback will be critical to the Commission as it develops its final recommendations.
