Exploring the Lower East Side’s Historic Water Story
May 7, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Have you ever wondered how the city’s streets got their names? Join this walking tour with the Lower East Side Ecology Center to learn about the famous Canal Street. From the natural landscape of Manahatta to the industrialization of the city and the development of modern water systems, we will explore the relationship between human history and the city’s natural waterways.
This is an in-person walk. We will meet in front of the Seward Park Library at 2pm. After a brief introduction, we will embark on a 1 mile walk ending at Collect Pond Park. We will stop throughout the walk to discuss the landmarks and historical context. Bring comfortable shoes and drinking water.
