Architecture Walking Tour for Families

October 24 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

What buildings and spaces were central to the lives of immigrants who settled on the Lower East Side in the early 1900s? How were they designed to meet the needs of the people who used them? Join us on this brand-new walking tour for families to discover how old buildings can tell us stories about the past. How come neighborhood schools have giant windows? Why do some tenement buildings have such elaborately decorated exteriors? You’ll discover the answers to these and other questions as we explore how architecture on the Lower East Side reflected ideas about who immigrants were – and what they wanted and needed. Recommended for children five and up and their adult companions.
